20% of your Final GRADE= The trabajo escrito tests you on your combined Receptive and Productive written skills i.e. reading and writing. You will read 3 texts that are interrelated by topic/theme and produce a piece of writing of 300-400 words as well as a 150-200 word written rationale based on your readings. The texts (article, blog, manual, written correspondence, news article, essay, interview, pamphlet, etc.) will be about one of the Core Topics: Relaciones Sociales, Cuestiones Globales, Comunicación y los medios. The grade is out of 25 points and is worth 20% of your IB Spanish B grade.

Written Assignment HL/Trabajo Escrito NS

20% of your Final GRADE= The trabajo escrito tests you on your combined Receptive and Productive written skills i.e. reading and writing. You will read 1-2 literary work/s from the Spanish-Speaking world for the Spanish-Speaking world and create a "work" of 500-600 words as well as a 150-250 word written rationale based on your readings. The written assignments will be a "text" i.e. new ending for the novel, an interview of a character, an entry in a diary as if you were a character, a "noticia" about an historic event from the reading etc. The grade is out of 25 points and is worth 20% of your IB Spanish B grade.

Process:

Step 1 Preparation

(SL)

  • SL:Choose a subject related to the **Core Topics** (on your own time but you can check with Sr. to see if it is appropriate/fitting for you.
  • Find and Read 3 texts, in Spanish, that are interrelated on a topic, that you have not seen/used in class before. (on your own time, but you may talk to Sr. to assure they are appropriate)
    • articles, blogs, interviews etc. from print OR online
    • are from or related to Spanish speakers or the countries that speak Spanish.
  • The texts you read should be between 300-400 words.
  • The three texts SHOULD be of different types: they don't all have to be journals or newspaper articles etc.
    • find ideas and vocabulary you want to include
    • Don't copy whole sentences
    • assure you are pulling equally from all three texts

  • HL: Choose a work/s from the Spanish-Speaking world for the Spanish-Speaking world.
  • See Sr. for ideas on product to make.

Step 2 Planning/Brainstorm/Fundamentación

  • Choose/determine your own task and title based on what you have read. (MUST Share with Sr. as your work must be original and not similar to others in class)
  • The text you create CAN be the same type of text as one of the 3 texts you have read.
  • Draft your 150-200 word Fundamentación -
    • tell what you have done/are planning to do and justify why.
    • Make clear reference to your 3 texts.
    • You can do the rationale before OR after you have written the text type yourself as well

Step 3 DRAFT of Text and Text-Type

  • Begin typing your rough draft.
  • Learn about the text-type you are implementing. (Be Sure you Shared with Sr. your Text-type before you begin writing)
    • your product should be like the Text you have chosen to use.
  • You may use reference materials (dictionaries/notes from previous years etc).
  • You can bring your draft to Sr for verbal feedback - once - here or at next step.

Step 4 Revisions/Editing

  • Check for linkage between your Rationale and your sources
  • Think about:
    • The task: Students produce a piece of writing that may be chosen from the recommended text types listed

      for paper 2 in this section, after discussion with the teacher as an advisor. The task should be suitable for a

      piece of writing no more than 400 words in length. The content must be linked to one or more of the core

      topics and based on the information gathered from the three (minimum) or four (maximum) sources such as

      articles, blogs, audio/visual materials and interviews selected by the student in consultation with the teacher.

      The student should:

      • address the subject presented in the rationale

      • organize the information from the sources in a manner appropriate to the task

      • use language appropriate to the text type and communicative purpose.
    • Fundamentación/Rationale
      • Is your Rationale unclear or is it clear and Directly linked to your sources?
  • You can bring your draft to Sr for verbal feedback - once - here or at last step.

Step 5 Finalization/Check/Referencing

  • Write final Copy of the Text.
  • Write Final Rationale
  • Points Breakdown
  1. Criterion A: Rationale and task How well does the student use the rationale and the task in order to accomplish the assignment?
    1. How clearly has the task been introduced in the rationale?
    2. How successfully does the task address the subject and aim(s) stated in the rationale?
    3. How appropriate is the choice of the text type to the task?
  2. Criterion B: Organization and development
    1. How well are ideas organized and developed?
**Note: Criterion B is applied on the task only.
  1. Criterion C: Language
    1. How appropriately and effectively does the student use language in relation to the task?
  • Bibliografía/Fuentes/Obras Citadas
    • No Specific Reference system, use COMMONLY used systems. MLA APA etc.
    • Does not count in your word count.
    • It is not necessary to include in-text referencing when a phrase or idea is taken from one of the source texts, as the written assignment is not considered to be an academic research document.
    • no need to send sources with trabajo escrito; the sources are already cited.

How to upload/submit your work:

  1. Complete a cover Sheet (below) in Spanish (English translations available for you if needed).
  2. Visit Candidate Login
    1. enter your personal code (3 letters and 3 numbers) and PIN (I have a copy if you need it)
    2. You will be prompted to digitally sign the candidate declaration
    3. Once you have submitted your assignments, I will be able to access/view your work and will have to authenticate the authenticity of it.
    4. After my authentication, the assignment is available for submission to the IB.
  3. Other important information:
    1. Your written assignment SHOULD NOT contain any details identifying the tasks as belonging to you (candidate/school name/logo etc).
    2. Save a copy of the cover sheet for yourself.
